WordPress allows connecting to Twitter using their API and WordPress API, and vice versa which provides seamless integration. There are different routes you can connect to Twitter like WordPress User route or Website Visitor route. Some connection methods include:
1] Addition of Post Comments or Specific activity from Website Visitors by logging in from Third Party Websites like Twitter
2] RSS feeds (either single or aggregate posts from the site or multiple users or a single user) FROM or TO WordPress and Twitter
3] Posts or Blogs made from Twitter reflecting WordPress and Vice Versa
4] Adding or Reflecting a Twitter Post or a complete Post Search in a WordPress as a Part of Blog or a Whole Page using a widget or by using ‘shortcodes’ or some other Features like following, etc that are used as a mode of Twitter Connectivity
Depending on Type or Category of Function or Feature to connect to Twitter, there are Plugins or Widgets available. The different Plugins are available either as just for Twitter or as Social platform independent installable ones. Plugins in the Twitter tags (Twitter based keyword search like ‘twitter’, ‘twitter+connection’, ‘twitter+connectivity’, ‘twitter+connectivity+widgets’, ‘twitter+connectivity+Plugins’, ‘Twitter+WordPress+add+posts’, ‘twitter+wordpress+add+search’, ‘twitter+wordpress+shortcode’, or any other logical keyword that contains the words Twitter, Twitter Site or Social Sites related Features ) sections like the following are commonly downloaded and installed:
I] ‘Subscribe / Connect / Follow Widget’ – adds a widget, and allows to subscribe connect or follow from multiple platform,
II] ‘WordPress Social Login’ – integrates directly with WordPress authenticated posting or login section, and allows multiple platforms with Twitter,
III] ‘Twitter Feed for WordPress’ – integrates directly, and allows Twitter posts to be imported as RSS feeds for WordPress,
IV] ‘JM Twitter API Status Monitor’ – allows Twitter RSS feeds to WordPress,
V] ‘Twitter API Shortcodes’ – allows adding single or complete post search into a part or complete WordPress Page,
VI] ‘WP RSS Aggregator’ – imports and merges multiple feeds either from different Twitter Accounts or different Social Platforms, AND other.
Installation may be as easy as:
A] Searching for specific features using Keywords in Plugins section (Administration Panel > Plugins > Add New),
B] Installing it by Clicking on Install link of the Plugin and then Activating it directly or the Installed Plugins Section (Administration Panel > Plugins > Installed Plugins).
Development of Widgets or Plugins is done using hooks from WordPress and Twitter API for merging features.
